Lough Neagh Reflections – Restoring water quality in Northern Ireland (NI Science Festival)

Lough Neagh supplies 40% of NI’s drinking water and is the UK and Ireland’s largest freshwater lake. Algae blooms since 2023 pose major public health risks. This event looks at how farmers reduce nutrient runoff, with a short film and a panel of farmers, scientists, and policymakers on water quality solutions.

70th anniversary of the Polish Konik reserve breeding farm in Popielno

In Popielno, in the heart of the Masurian region, the jubilee celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the reserve breeding of the Polish Konik, conducted by the Research Station of the Institute of Animal Reproduction and Food Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences, took place. The GROW project actively participated in the event, presenting the latest solutions supporting regenerative agriculture and knowledge exchange among farmers.

agroWARMA 2025 - 31st Autumn Agricultural Fair

The GROW project was showcased at the AgroWarma fair as an initiative supporting farmers in adopting regenerative practices and increasing farm profitability. The booth featured interactive workshops where scientists demonstrated step by step how modern technologies support cattle breeding. Participants observed reproductive cells under a microscope, learned about their storage in liquid nitrogen and post-thaw quality assessment, and explored the full procedure of in vitro embryo production.

It is important that agricultural vocational students who come into contact with modern agricultural practices for the first time during their training are given the opportunity to experience them in a practical environment. EIT Food supported the field trip of two classes from two vocational schools to attend a one-day excursion with a field demonstration. Fortunately, the young farmers also included a large proportion of female pupils.
